Back from the Honeymoon.

Life 2 Comments »

Back from Costa Rica to the real world and after the last six weeks of constant planning, running around taking care of wedding issues, working around the house and trying to squeeze in the odd ride it’s time to get back at it.  Other than a few days up in Aspen over Christmas we’re home and the bike is back up towards the top of the list.  I still have some solid work ahead in the back yard but with the front complete (for now) I’ve at least hidden my mess from the neighbors and can take my time.

So, how were the last two weeks? Pretty incredible for both of us.  The wedding and all the surrounding events ran about as smoothly as I could have ever imagined (lots of planning in advance, and a huge thanks to our coordinator Heather on the big day).  From a fantastic rehearsal dinner to the minute the band wrapped up and everybody headed off downtown it was a blast.  I want to send out a huge thank you to everybody involved from the vendors to every last guest.  Getting together a group of friends and family that size and having people travel from all over the country to share the day meant the world to both of us.

The honeymoon? Couldn’t have been much better.  The Four Seasons has the service game down, almost to the point of being too much (at least compared to what we’re used to).  Things like lounging poolside and having an attendant ask if you’d like your glasses cleaned, or chilling on the beach and having a periodic spray from a mist can and a cool scented towel to wipe down with, or sitting down to dinner in a black dress (think that was Cheynna…) and the attendant asking if you’d like the napkin color switched to match(wonder what other colors they had)…details.  Sometimes however you just want to be able to relax give a shout if you need something.  They do make it easy to enjoy and do as little as possible other than have fun and relax.  We fit in just about everything; “hiking” (read: short, sloooow, lots of stopping to wait for the group walk) around the Rincon de la Vieja volcanic activity, an evening sail, zip lines, checking out the local over tourerirized towns, wind surfing, kayaking, snorkeling, running the miles of unused golf cart paths, lounging at the beach and hours relaxing on the patio sitting in our own little private pool. and stuff.

Food? Wine? Have to at least put in a bit about it…  A destination for either? No.  Disappointing? No.  Enough to make most happy? For sure.  Mainly details that could have used some attention, a wine list that could have been way more interesting (something other than napa cabs/chards, crazy coin trophy itals and french bottlings and a few cheapies to fill it out - all WAAAY expensive…guess they had to get it all the way out here…and not that anything here was cheap) and a bit more “kick” from the flavor box all around.  The fish however was almost universally amazing; it’s hard to beat eating something that was chasing you around while snorkeling earlier that morning.   Mixed drinks (a bit more in line with the locale) were dialed as well, although $15 margs sting a bit.

Hopefully some day we’ll manage to win the lottery and go back; until then we’ll have some great memories, stories and pictures and be forever thankful that we were fortunate enough to start off a long life (two kids….tryin’ to make it honest) together in such a fantastic setting.

3/4 of that has to go to the BACK yard. Thanks Stu and Virginia for the slave labor!
