Will…I see you guys are moving on to Portugal. Try some “white port.” As a wine lover, I think you will love this stuff. Harder to find in the States, where red is prevalent. It’s an “apertif” served chilled. Has a punch, so try this post-race. I was in Lisbon years ago and enjoyed this pre-meal a number of times; suggested by the waiters. Good luck racing! http://www.premiumport.com/RTW.cfm

Good read on the VeloNews blog. Though, Will, I now find you a bit frightening.
I love Portugal. Try to listen to some Fado music, try the different flavors of bacalhau (sp.? their dishes with dried salt cod). You’ll see lots of desserts with egg and cinnamon. White port is fun. Also try their vinho verde, the Portuguese version of Moscato.
In the 90’s it was noted that the average Portuguese construction worker drank 2 bottles of this at every lunchtime. The gov tried to stop this, but the union rose up and squashed it, claiming it helped productivity by relieving the poor, aching joints of the survivors.
Can’t comment on the performance advantages to pro cyclists.
Keep you eyes open for cool bottles of Colheitas..this stuff is fab and often you can’t get it back here…
Enjoy!
