Euro Logic… They’re serious about it over here.

Fast

Damn fast. Looked like it was gettin a little loose here on the highway once it hit 130.

The bike race was fast too. This morning’s rainy, rolling stage was flat out from start to finish with less than 70 finishers, half the field. This afternoon was pretty controlled until the finish hill and short descent to the line where things blew to hell. I drove it on the descent and finished up in the front little group of 20 or so. Fingers crossed I snuck up a few spots. Some good form just showed up out of nowhere… Compared to a week ago when I could barely ride I feel like a completely different person. Bout time.

Shower Curtains

Life 2 Comments »

At some point in the past few weeks a memo went out to euro hotels (probably not the ones most people reading this would frequent - they knew this long ago - but to the ones we call home) that shower curtains are a good thing. Every night up here we’ve had shower curtains. This is big. I guess my suction cup secured travel shower curtain invention is no longer useful. Until now we thought it best to teach the hotels a lesson by flooding the place. No longer…

Today’s stage was pretty uneventful. Breakaway, flat for a long time, hauled ass around a hilly finish circuit and what was left of the group sprinted for the line after a crazy dangerous downhill run-in. Good times. Unfortunately the fact that unlike some guys I actually possess a self-preservation instinct places me at the back of 8 currently tied on time for 8th place. Tomorrow will probably blow apart a bit, either in a rolling morning stage or on the afternoon stage’s finish hill, but i’m gonna have to play sprinter if I have any shot at the top ten. Ugh. Here goes…:) For some reason the fact that I broke my hand here last year trying to play sprinter has me a bit squeamish about taking risks. Crazy.

A bit of a cluster right now:). We do this poor rolling balsawood box in pretty hard on a daily basis.

Just finished up the first stage of picardie on the exact same finish as where I broke my hand last year. Once again it ended in a split of around 30 guys and somehow I managed to sneak in there. Cofidis and Barloworld did a 2-up full team throw down in a crosswind stretch and that was that. Needless to say I was a bit cautious at the line and ended up mid-group.

2 days and 3 stages to go…

Back to France

And some tasty hotel campanile salads. Mmm. Doesn’t that look good? They love these “salades crudites” up here…to me it seems like something is missing…and not just freshness.  Both the corn and beets have a good, solid couple years of bottle age to ‘em.
After a few weeks of feeling pretty rough things finally came around testerday and I almost feel like a bike racer again. Just in time… Tomorrow is a 1 day just outside of Paris, Trophee Grimpeurs, then Picardie is the following 3. I’ll probably just do part of the race tomorrow and not overcook it going into Picardie but after a good break it will be great to get back at it.
