Random Kindness and the Jersey Competition
Life September 20th, 2007Yesterday while cramming a massive haul of lumber(what will soon become our new deck) into the back of my car and clearly looking a bit pissed, a fellow Home Depot customer, Pete, saw my situation, came over and insisted I unload the bit I already had smashed between the seats and toss it all in the back of his truck. He then followed me home, helped unload, played with Charlotte for a minute, and refused anything I offered as thanks for the help - taking ony my wishes for a nice day and telling me to have fun with the project. One rarely encounters someone like Pete who was willing, simply because they’re a nice guy, to help out somebody that looks like they need a hand. Damn cool.
On a SERIOUS note - the Slipstream 08 Jersey Competition is in full swing and voting ends tomorrow. Not gonna lie, most of our cool choices got nixed by the clothing company due to production issues, and these 5 aren’t all that cool, but we need to pick one and I’m begging for your help. Click here and vote for choice 4. PLEASE. HELP! I HAVE TO WEAR THIS STUFF ALL YEAR! If I find out that you voted for another choice I will hunt you down and kill you in your sleep. Thanks!

Sorry…already voted for #5 figuring that #4 dark blue may not stand out enough in those rainy/cold/foggy belgium spring funfests thus getting you dinged by a manure toting tractor.

dont do it! #1 #1!

Sorry I already voted for #5 as well. Now that I look at it though, #5 does kind of remind me of the Dasani water bottle. Not sure that is a good thing.

#1 looks too much like a golf outfit
#2 has too light of a color for the pants (Moose Knuckle is bad, people). Also, the straight lines on the leg will look weird
#3 the colors clash a bit they way they’re arranged
#5 the straight lines on the leg will look weird on bodies
#4 is probably the least evil, and actually it’s not so bad, especially with Disco exiting (and leaving an opening for a team with new dark kits)
Hopefully you get to carry them to the TdF, good looking or not

Will … you got my vote…. true…. as a graphic designer, the best ones got YANKED. these alternatives suck!

They are all fugly. Get rid of the argyle.

Sorry Man…I already voted for #2. You gotta stick with the white!

#4 oh yeah…nice job at tour of mo!

first off, great job at TOM! congrats to will and the whole team. so glad to see brad on stage with you all after that crazy crash.
i loved the jersey contest idea, and i really enjoyed putting together entries, as i expect lots of other fans did, regardless of the outcome. i hope you’ll do it again sometime, too! if/when you do, maybe they could either fill us in on those clothing manufacturing rules *or* loosen up and choose finalist designs that would need a few changes to work?
i also suggest these extra awards, even if i wouldn’t have voted for them: best jersey featuring JV sideburns (#214), best jersey incorporating a burrito holster (#80), most thoroughly accessorized (#84-86).

Gotta admit I went with #5 this morning. Sorry, dude! I’ll wear #4, if selected but thought a touch dark (actually, I’ll buy and wear what you guys choose). Great job in MO and congrats on this finish at major race!!! And, some nice photos.

Speaking of kindness…I’m looking at my Tour of Missouri poster with your signature on the graphic of the Most Aggressive Rider jersey. I was in Springfield after the podium presentation, and you must have been exhausted after the breakaway. When I called out for an autograph, you immediately stopped with a smile, and signed for me. That will keep me smiling for a long time!

Sorry, dude. I’d have voted for 4 if I knew you liked it so much. I discounted it (even though it is awfully nice) because I am so tired of “peloton blue” and it seemed that your boss wanted something that would stand out. Besides, I’m bummed that my design didn’t make the top five. Oh well, them’s the breaks. Congrats on the great work at Missouri. So looking forward to watching you guys next year (not in a creepy way). Enjoy the down time.

I voted for #4. The designer lives in my neck of the woods. I live in Los Alamos, NM.
Great job at Missouri. Your diary entries are a joy to read. So are Christian Vande Velde’s.

Oh my goodness. What on Earth did you guys do to deserve some of those submissions? Some of them are pretty tight but most of those are just flat-out cruel.
The final 5 aren’t THAT heinous, but man, some of the originally submitted designs were simply mean-spirited. I think I threw up a little bit there just now.
I can only hope that humanity’s inherent kindness or evil is not judged based on these kit designs.

Wow, this sucks! It’s worse than a presidential election. I hate voting for the lesser evil. None of my favorites made it to the final 5. I was planning on buying a full kit next year for the first time ever of ANY team. I don’t think I can justify it now.
I do have to agree with Ken up above that there should be some recognition of a few “special entries”. The JV sideburns were superb. (I once had a kit with the face of a sponsor on the right butt cheek.) How about the Spanish submission that was just solid argyle? At least none of these have solid white over the crotch or butt crack! That’s always fun to look at in front of you for about 4 hours.
I guess I’ll have to break down and vote for #4 just so I can live through the night.

I vote for you mentioning more about your BMW in your future posts. Who cares about your wood,,,talk more about your car.

Sorry, but I voted #5. The other was to dark, Bad for hot summer races in the sun like the tour. And seeing that I’m a World Champion Powerlifter, you can do your best to beat me down, But, I think I can handle it. Good Luck for next year.

#4 is FUGLY! At least #2 looks like what you already have, which I’ve gotten used to.
