New VN.com Journal
Life February 14th, 2008Just posted up a new journal on Velonews.com. It’s been nice getting settled into Girona over the past few days. Lots to do yet before this apartment feels like home, but things are coming together slowly and it’s been awesome getting back into the kitchen a bit. I’m once again blown away by the availability, and cost, of vast quantities of unreal produce, even in February, from the daily market, and my favorite bakery and meat shop have helped stock the kitchen well. The 3 bags of fresh produce I walked home with yesterday ran me 8 euros. At Whole Foods it would have been, easily, 50 dollars. The man at the wine shop had a smile on his face when I came in as well:)I’ve started up some Spanish lessons as well with a real focus and hopefully in a couple of weeks I’ll be able to get my point across with a bit more complexity than a two year old. Now if only I had the language skills of my youngest sister…

Sigh. Another sign of how off base we are in the States where it comes to food. And Whole Foods is one of the good ones. Isn’t it nice when you are greeted like someone actually wants to sell you stuff? S’why I love that I’m friends with my local wine shop owners.
Glad to see how well your season is starting (other than your Blackberry woes - only good thing about that, apparently, is a new toy).

Will…nice first posting on VeloNews. I can relate on the Blackberry issue. I use a Treo but when the network is down, I feel so lost (get a life, would be the appropriate thing to add here). And, when one gets up in the middle of the night, why would you check your email at 3am (at least that’s what my wife asks when my Treo is aglow in bed).
Good luck with upcoming European races and excellent first race results! Just bought some lovely Spanish reds at the Wine Discount Center here this past weekend. Cheers, Jon.

Will, in your copious amounts of free time, try to check out some Michael Pollan’s writing. He has a couple of books, plus writes for the NYT quite a bit. His motto is “Eat Food, Not Too Much, Mostly Plants”. He is a proponent of “eating food and not edible food-like substances”.
I’m a cooking school alum and fellow foodie (and mediocre Cat3) so I always enjoy your posts/journal entries on many levels.
Best of luck in 08!
